The Geos Group is proud to be sponsoring local football team North Shields Juniors AFC Under 9 Reds, who play in the Northumberland Football Sunday League.
On 10 January, three members of the Under 9 Reds, Lucas, Joshua and Ollie, were invited to be team mascots for North Shields FC, also known as the Robins, who play in Northern League Division 1. After their Wednesday evening training session, the boys went straight to the match at the Daren Persson Stadium – the Robins’ home ground. They were thrilled to meet the players and walk out onto the pitch in front of a good crowd of supporters.
The Robins went on to lose the match against Heaton Stannington, but they didn’t go down without a fight. The team posted a photo of the Under 9 Reds mascots on their social media accounts, and thanked the boys for their support on the day.
North Shields Juniors AFC provides opportunities for grass-roots football in a structured and safe environment, and prides itself on being inclusive to boys and girls of all abilities. The club is run by volunteers, and last year it was awarded the prestigious FA Accredited 3 Star Award.
Since the club was founded in 1996, it has gone from strength to strength. There are now 700 playing members across 61 teams in the 7 to 18 age groups, along with a senior men’s team and reserves. The club also runs soccer skills sessions on Saturday mornings and soccer camps during the school holidays.
