Geos Group Continues Sponsorship of Bedlington Belles Football Club

The Geos Group is delighted to be sponsoring Bedlington Belles – a women’s football team founded in 2020 by Rowan Edwards, who works at the Port of Blyth, and managed by Tom Gallagher and Joanne Dixon.

The team competes in the Northumberland Women’s League, and finished a respectable third in Division One at the end of the 2022/23 season. They also did well in the County Cup, beating Premiership side Prudhoe Town and then coming close to an upset against Newcastle East End in the following round. The team played in several other competitions such as the Munitionettes Cup in May and the Northumberland FA Summer Sevens Tournament in June.

Including friendlies, Bedlington Belles played a total of 35 matches last season, and scored an impressive 148 goals. Of the 55 women who took part in training sessions and matches, Louisa Paxton was named the players’ and manager’s Player of the Season at the end-of-season awards ceremony on 2 July. Natasha Wilson was Top Goal-Scorer, the Most Improved Player was Emma Carling, and Catherine Colquhoun was given the prestigious title of Banter Queen.

Liz Winship, the Geos Group’s Terminal Manager at the Port of Blyth, said: “We are really proud to be supporting Bedlington Belles again next season. We had a great time back in February when our MD Barry Newton and his family and I saw them win 8-0 in a home match against New Fordley Vixens at Gallagher Park in Bedlington. The players presented us with a souvenir signed home shirt with our logo on it. All of us at the Geos Group wish them the very best of luck in 2023/24.”

The Bedlington Belles are now awaiting a decision from the league about whether they are going to be promoted next season. You can follow the team’s progress on Twitter @belles_fc, or on Facebook @BedlingtonBellesFC.
